Excel Spreadsheet Basics

A powerful tool for performing calculations, developing budgets, analyzing and managing data. Master the essentials including: text and number formatting, sorting and filtering data, basic formulas and charts. In class laptop provided. Prerequisite: Completion of a Computer Basics course, Microsoft Word or equivalent familiarity creating documents, formatting text, navigating menus/toolbars in software programs.

Dave Chandler-Smith has 20+ years of IT Development on computer systems. Working in IT has allowed him to further his expertise by being exposed to the many software needs of various industries.

Substitute Teacher Program

Prepare to be a substitute teacher in OOB & Saco. Successful completion of the course will guarantee a refund of the course fee and, once hired by either district, a higher rate of pay. Certificates awarded and course fee reimbursed upon successful completion of all program requirements. No class 1/20, 2/17 and 2/20.

Note: If you are already a certified teacher you do not need to take this course to receive the higher rate of pay.

Required: Valid email address, access to a computer, passing grade based on course expectations, including a strategies project. Completed fingerprinting and background checks (http://www.maine.gov/doe/cert/fingerprinting/) - an additional student expense of $70. A completed Substitute Application Packet for either RSU 23 or the Saco School District. All course requirements are due the last day of class.

Linda Roy taught primary grades in OOB schools for 39 years and has a Professional Teacher MSEd degree. Since retiring she has substituted regularly in our local schools.

Outboard Motor Repair I

Take the mystery out of using and maintaining your outboard motor. Get hands-on help with the basics of troubleshooting while working with the gear case, cooling, fuel and ignition systems. Bring your own 6-horsepower or less outboard motor, diagnose the problem and repair it! Yearly maintenance will also be covered. Some outboards will be available to repair. Be prepared to get your hands dirty. Instructor will supply all tools or bring your own. Tuition includes cleaning/maintenance materials.

Note: Replacements parts available for purchase at time of use.

Mike Luchetti, of Vintage Outboard Restoration, is a former teacher & avid fisherman. He has taught boat/motor repair for the past 25 years and enjoys showing others what he has learned.

Becoming a Notary Public

A notary’s primary duty is to formally witness transactions involving paper documents and, in Maine, officiate at weddings. Prepare to be commissioned as a notary public, learn the history of the office, its powers and duties, eligibility, procedures and record-keeping. Applicants must be residents of ME or NH residents who are regularly employed or carry on a trade/business in ME. Leave with the testing and paperwork ready to submit to the State. License is approximately $50 and is valid for seven years.
