WordPress is a free, open-source platform that allows you to start small and grow your site as needed without needing to know any code. Walk through purchasing a domain name, setting up hosting and starting a basic WordPress site. Cover the basics of set-up, choosing a theme, customizing your templates and how to use plugins. In class laptops provided.

Required: a working knowledge of your computer and internet use.

Meleena Erikson, in the marketing field nearly 20 years, has worked with small businesses and nonprofits utilizing social media to help grow their business. She is a college professor in Marketing at SNHU and owns a marketing firm.

Mental Health First Aid

This first aid is offered to a person developing a mental health problem or crisis and is given until appropriate treatment and support are received or until the crisis is resolved. The aim is to decrease the stigma and demystify mental illness while increasing mental health literacy. This course does not teach you to be the professional therapist, counselor or the diagnostician but will teach you to recognize the symptoms, offer help and guide the individual to a professional, if appropriate. Tuition includes textbook. Registration closes 10/15. No class 11/5.

Note: This is an 8 hour certification class and students must complete all 8 hours to receive certificate. You are still encouraged to attend and gain knowledge even if you miss a session. Certification is through the National Council for Behavioral Health as well as Mental Health First Aid USA.

Kathleen McAuliffe, a health care professional for 40 years, has has taught medical terminology and medical transcription at SMCC, CMCC, Andover College and OOB/Saco Adult Ed. She has a BA in Psychology, Masters experience in Counseling and Hospital Administration and is a certified instructor with Mental Health First Aid.

Substitute Teacher Certificate Program

Prepare to be a substitute teacher in OOB & Saco. Successful completion of the course will guarantee a refund of the course fee and, once hired by either district, a higher rate of pay. Certificates awarded and course fee reimbursed upon successful completion of all program requirements. No reimbursements issued after 11/7/19. No class 10/31.

Note: If you are already a certified teacher you do not need to take this course to receive the higher rate of pay.

Required: Valid email address, computer access, passing grade based on course expectations, including a strategies project. Completed fingerprinting and background checks (http://www.maine.gov/doe/cert/fingerprinting/) - an additional student expense of $70. A completed Substitute Application Packet (http://sacoschools.org/human-resource/). All course requirements are due the last day of class.

NOTE: Class has been moved from Saco Middle to OOB High School.
