Our community needs individuals who want to make a difference in a child's life.

Children with intellectual challenges, autism, and mental health disorders in Maine as well as their families depend on children's behavioral health services. And there is a huge need in our area! A Certified Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) is an essential member of a child's treatment team and has the chance to have an instant influence while assisting children in reaching their full potential. 

We are thrilled to provide this fantastic ONLINE training and certificate program to our community. You will be equipped to work with children who need services thanks to this program, and also prepare yourself for employment with local social service organizations. Start whenever you choose, and go at your own pace.

Complete 12 online modules and three live, four-hour sessions, after which you will receive free online training in blood-borne pathogens and certification in child and adult first aid and CPR. Our free remote training program can get you licensed and started in a career that will change your life in just 40 hours.

 

Required: Must be a Maine resident and at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent to become certified.

Jeffrey Carpenter, Workforce Recruitment Specialist for the State of Maine's OCFS through Woodfords Family Services, is here to help you through this learning opportunity by providing answers to questions and technical issues, should any arise. He is also a resource to connect you with service agencies once you have completed the training.

Introduction to the Elements of Real Estate Brokerage

Topics covered include industry overview/organization, Maine Real Estate Commission, agency relationships, product knowledge, property valuation, the appraisal process, financing the transaction, contracts, closings and federal and state laws. Fee includes textbook PDF (hard copy available from Center for Real Estate for an additional fee), one year of access to the course, instructor feedback after the three quizzes and the final exam and twice monthly Q & A drop-in sessions via Zoom. A certificate of completion is awarded with a grade of 75% or above, required for the state licensing exam ($85 fee), which must be taken within one year of satisfactory course completion. When you affiliate with a real estate agency and apply for your license, there is a $100 fee, along with a $21 criminal records check fee. Some companies offer to pay this fee when you affiliate with them. Attendees must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or equivalency to get a license but a diploma is not required to attend the course. Zoom link provided by instructor.

He has enjoyed helping many buyers and sellers make informed real estate decisions. Bob has been an instructor at Husson University for more than 20 years, teaching numerous business courses.

Qualify to apply for the Coast Guard license to operate vessels carrying up to six passengers for hire (OUPV). The fee includes access to the Blended OUPV Course using Captain School Key West Learning Management System, charts, navigation tools, and the USCG-approved and accepted test. Students will participate in 30 asynchronous online class hours, including 12-16 hours of online mentoring and coaching via Zoom. In addition, the instructor will mentor student progress and students have assignments to complete. Once online requirements are complete, there will be 16 hours of required in-person classroom sessions (Saturdays, in Topsham), concluding with the four Coast Guard-approved and required examinations. Registration closes at noon on 9/13. John Coffin has held his USCG License since 1985 and has operated charter vessels in the Florida Keys and ME. He is a Master ME Guide and a certified Boating Instructor for the National Safe Boating Council.

Substitute teaching is versatile, rewarding, and benefits both the employee and the school. This class will enhance the skills and understandings that lead to success in any classroom. Through presentations, discussions, and readings, we will address behavior expectations & ways to get & keep students on task. Examine lesson plans and review what to expect on any given day and look at the role of technology through the grades. Consider the variety of subbing opportunities & roles in both regular and special education strands, and discuss the professional behaviors that will keep you as busy as you wish. Tours of RSU23 schools will give you a sense of how today's classrooms function. Leave with a notebook containing the course presentation, relevant readings, and resources that will support you on the job.

A certificate will be awarded upon completion of all class requirements and will ensure that, if hired by RSU23, you will receive the highest rate of pay for substitute teachers & technicians in our district. State-mandated fingerprinting and a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) are an employment requirement and can be completed as part of the 10-session course and will incur extra fees. Access to a computer and a valid email address are required to complete homework.

Linda Roy taught primary grades in OOB schools for 39 years and has a Professional Teacher MS. Ed. degree and regularly substituted K–12 in our local schools.

Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Training

Created by the Maine CDC, RBS gives the workers who make decisions about IDs, age, sobriety and their worksite safety the best skills and information possible to protect their customers, their staff, and their community. Servers and sellers play an important role in reducing over-consumption and underage access to alcohol. When you and your team are trained in the responsible methods for serving alcohol, your neighbors, families, and community all benefit and experience increased safety and well-being. RBS training helps you to keep your work environment low-stress and thriving. It can also help individuals and their establishments avoid fines and lawsuits.

Alissa Wigglesworth, Prevention Program Coordinator at Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition, holds a BA in Psychology and Substance Misuse Studies from Keene State College, and has been working in the prevention field since 2019.

Stephanie Masters-Plamondon, Certified Prevention Specialist, holds a Masters in Public Health, and enjoys working with the hospitality and restaurant industries as she worked as a server herself for many years.

Prerequisite: Completion of Computer Basics or equivalent familiarity using mouse & keyboard, creating documents and formatting text using Microsoft Word, and navigating menus/toolbars in software programs.
