Kate McCarty, Food Preservation Community Educator at UME Cooperative Extension, served with the AmeriCorps VISTA program and has completed the Master Food Preserver Program, an intensive, hands-on training in all aspects of home food preparation.
One Sheet Wonders!

New template! Twelve new cards from one sheet! Using a template and one piece of 12 x 12-inch decorative paper learn to create 12 different cards! Make three in class and leave with directions on how to make the remainder at home. This template is different from previous class. Registration closes 3/9.
Faith Garnett began teaching card making in 2009. She sells original greeting cards at craft fairs and at Seacoast Crafters in Portsmouth.
Movie Club Week 2

Join us for one or more sessions to talk about how far we need to travel to find out who we are. Our viewing list will inspire and inform our ongoing discussions on how friendships, family, community and society shape us and our perception of who we are. Watercolor Batik on Rice Paper

Choose one of three designs to draw onto rice paper and then apply wax and watercolor paints. Hot wax (180 degree) will be used as a resist to preserve colors throughout the process. Students may purchase extra matting, if desired, for $3-$5, payable to the instructor.
Note: If you have an aversion to the odor of hot wax, this class may not be for you! Required: Watercolor brushes #0 or #1 liner, #4 & #8 round, large 3/4 inch flat or angle and an Ultra-Fine Black Sharpie.
Marjorie Otis, a decorative painter for 30 years, continues her studies at regional conferences in ME & PA. She is a member of the Decorative Painters and Southern ME Crafters Societies, Sea Strokes of Maine, Tole n Me and the United ME Crafters.
Basic of Singing

Learn to sing with the right training and practice in a fun, supportive environment! Using vocal exercises and games, proper breathing, posture and articulation techniques, you will be amazed by your newly found vocal production. Sheet music will be provided.
Kathy Slack, BA in Theater with a Minor in Voice from Ithaca College, has studied with German Opera singer, Jutta Rose, along with jazz greats, Rhiannon and Bobby McFerrin and Jeanette LoVetri from the Contemporary Commercial Music Institute. She has performed throughout NE & NYC and currently teaches in Yarmouth and Bath.

This hands-on introduction will include basic knife and cooking techniques such as sautéing, poaching, broiling and pureeing along with sanitation guidelines, measurements and ingredient resources. Start with soup stocks, potato leek soup, polenta, no cook tomato sauce and cream sauces. Class two will have us braising pork steak, making chicken three ways and a creamy risotto. Our final class pulls it all together as we create a dinner party from soup to nuts featuring an appetizer, winter salad, roast pork tenderloin and ending with rich individual pumpkin cheesecake.
Moira Rascati is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in NY and has been a sous-chef at Joseph’s by the Sea for the past 25 years. She has taught at SMCC for 12 years.
