Beginners Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga is a therapeutic sequence that synchronizes breathing with postures. This practice helps to heal, cleanse and tone the body. Best of all, this form of yoga will give you the necessary tools to quiet the mind, both on and off the mat! This is an introductory class and all levels are welcome! Wear comfortable clothing. Mats provided. Register through OOB/Saco Adult Ed only. No class 11/12.

Jennifer Poore holds two 200 hour yoga certifications. She has been practicing yoga for more than 15 year and discovered Ashtanga eight years ago. She is excited to share this beautiful tradition with her students.

Chi Kung Level I

Chi Kung (pronounced Chee Gong) is a gentle exercise that relieves stress without straining joints, muscles or ligaments. Slow graceful movements combined with meditation, Chi Kung controls energy flow while increasing stamina and awareness. This ancient Chinese practice combines intentional, controlled breathing with movements to encourage the flow of chi (vital energy) in the body elevating the immune system, releasing nervous tension and eliminating a buildup of stress, all important factors in maintaining optimal health. Wear loose clothing and comfortable shoes.

Mark Gerardi, studying and teaching martial arts for 25 years, is the founder of Samurai Fitness and a member of the National Qigong Association. He is also a powerful energy healer with formal education in Shiatsu, Herbalism, EFT, KCR and Reiki.

Chi Kung Level II

This follow up to Chi Kung I will teach the participants other forms as well as get into the how tos of the healing aspects of this art that is a part of Traditional Chinese medicine. Some experience in Chi Kung is helpful but not required. Wear loose clothing and comfortable shoes.

She holds certifications in BeyondBarre, TRX Group Suspension Training, TRX Suspension Sports Medicine Training, CPR/AED and is passionate about sharing the benefits of pilates with others.

Fascia, webbing that wraps around our muscles, tissues and ligaments, needs to be stretched regularly in a balanced manner to avoid injury and issues. For example, if your fascia is not stretched in one leg correctly, you may later experience back pain due to improper balancing. Discover how foam rolling (SMR stretching) can fix and prevent injuries from happening and the importance of other stretching techniques to prevent injury now and in the future. Wear comfortable, nonrestrictive clothing for stretching.

Chantal Cyr holds a BS in Business from Lasell College, Personal Training and Training Fascia for Function certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

She is also a NASM & AFAA certified personal trainer, pilates trained through the PhysicalMind Institute and willpower & grace, TRX, Beyond Barre, Zumba and Reiki I/II certified.

Latin Workout with Lazaro

Lazaro Hernandez Pomares attended a Cuban school of dance, finishing with a degree in Physical Education. He was invited to teach in Russia, later moving to Portland, ME, where he is known as one of the most energetic and skilled dance instructors available.

Sue Giarolo became a Kripalu-trained 200 hour yoga instructor in 2012. She is also certified in Let Your Yoga Dance, Restorative Yoga, YSR12, Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra and Reiki I/II. From movement to stillness, sheer bliss to deep inward exploration, her goal is to guide each person to be their own Guru.
