Chi Kung Level I - Spring

Chi Kung (pronounced Chee Gong) is a gentle exercise that relieves stress without straining joints, muscles or ligaments. Using graceful movements, combined with meditation, Chi Kung controls energy flow while increasing stamina and awareness. This ancient Chinese practice combines intentional, controlled breathing with movements to encourage the flow of chi (vital energy) in the body; elevate the immune system, release nervous tension and eliminate the buildup of stress -- important factors in maintaining optimal health. Wear loose clothing and comfortable shoes. 

NOTE: Winter course schedule changes have necessitated date changes  (was 4/2-5/7).

This follow-up to Chi Kung Level I will teach other forms, as well as get into the how-to’s of the healing aspects of this art that is a part of traditional Chinese medicine. Some experience in Chi Kung is helpful but not required. Wear loose clothing and comfortable shoes.

Jazz Dance Workout

Jazz it up with lots of simple steps and combinations to move you and work your body! Great music from Broadway, classics, Latin and current tunes combined with exercises that will keep or get you dancer fit. Bring water, wear loose clothing and tenis shoes. No class May 23rd.

NOTE: First two sessions will be held at OOB HS and the rest at Young School.

Linda Waters, a certified instructor in Group Exercise, Healthways Silver Sneakers, Zumba & Zumba Gold, BTS Group Groove, and Night Club Cardio, has been dancing & teaching for 50+ years. She has studied all over the United States.

Latin Workout with Lazaro - Summer

Get your sweat on with the music of Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Afro Rumba and more. Bust stress, boost energy and burn calories while using traditional and unique moves to fabulous dance music. Improvisation is encouraged. Wear sneakers and comfortable workout clothes and be prepared to have a blast!

Lazaro Hernandez Pomares grew up in Cuba, where he began dancing at a very young age and attended a Cuban school of dance, finishing with a degree in Physical Education. He was invited to teach in Russia, later moving to Portland, ME, where he is known as one of the most energetic and skilled dance instructors available.

Have you ever wanted to use a sword or fight with a light saber? Each class will begin with a few exercises and stretches to prepare the body for the movement we do over and around a series of obstacles. We will be utilizing a wooden training sword and learning a variety of basic sword techniques. This class has been referred to as Cross Fitness Training with Crossing Swords. Wear loose clothing and prepare to Get Samurai Fit!

Strengthen and deepen your T’ai Chi practice by expanding your basic exercises while putting moves together to create your form. Some meditation practices may be integrated as an aid to further relaxation and stress reduction, and to help with pain management. Wear loose-fitting clothing and comfortable shoes.

Required: Knowledge of T’ai Chi Level I.
