Heartsaver® CPR & First Aid for Adults & Children

Calendar Nov 12, 2024 at 6 pm, runs for 2 weeks

Acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to handle first aid, choking, or sudden cardiac arrest situations until emergency medical assistance arrives. Learn how to handle scenarios including bleeding, sprains, bone fractures, and shock. Learn to operate an AED and give CPR to infants, children and adults. Certifications in first aid and CPR are valid for two years and meet the requirements for child care providers.

Karl Finley, an EMT/Paramedic who has served as a volunteer fireman with the Scarborough Fire Department for more than 20 years, previously spent 19 years at the Saco Fire Department. He has 11 years of experience instructing CPR and has been the public education coordinator for nine years.

Moira Rascati, a graduate of Culinary Institute of America in NY, has been a professional chef for 40+ years and at Joseph's by the Sea in Old Orchard Beach for more than 30. She is currently an instructor at SMCC in their culinary arts and nutrition programs.

Mill Girls of the Pepperell Section 2

Join us for an introduction to the Mill Girls and the part they played in building Biddeford/Saco's textile industry's prosperity. What conditions existed for those who worked there in the 1840s? Discover how the use of female labor came about, what their daily lives were like, how the girls and the community as a whole were changed, and when and why the practice came to an end. Leave with a new appreciation of this unique part of history that happened right here in our own community.

Liz Mansfield and her family have lived in Biddeford/Saco since 1983. Childhood summers spent in her great-great-grandparent's house, still full of their possessions, led to a lifelong interest in local history. She taught elementary school for a time and then taught adults for nearly 20 years as a Customer Service Trainer at L. L. Bean. Now retired, Liz volunteers for the Biddeford Mills Museum.

Beyond the Tea Bag

Explore how to make your best cup of tea, what you need for loose leaf preparation as well as other useful equipment. We will do side by side comparisons of several tea bag and loose leaf samples. Marianne Russo, Maine's only Certified Tea Specialist, recently retired from her business of 20 years, Nellie's Tea Company where she offered retail tea and related merchandise, tea service, tea tastings and education, as well as catered tea. She loves sharing her knowledge and passion for all things tea with others.

Karalyn Thayer has a BFA from the ME College of Art with a background in teaching web and graphic design. She creates her art with the use of mixed media illustrations and loves experimenting with at home printmaking.

Leadership & Impulse Control

Does your pet tend to lack impulse control, focus, act unruly, etc.? As their human, do you need to find better ways to provide guidance and leadership to your animal companion? Join us for an introduction on how animals learn, recognizing their body language, and developing communication skills to work with your pet. We'll discuss training on impulse control and emotional control using a rewards-based approach. This is an informational session, no pets allowed due to allergens.

Andra Yanchenko holds animal care certifications as a veterinary assistant, hospice & palliative care, pet nutrition, human-animal bond and dog training. She opened PAWSsibilities LLC/One Dog at a Time Shelter in 2022, focusing on canine awareness/enrichment, doggy daycare, and sheltering animals.
