DJing for Beginners

Have you ever wanted to be a DJ? It can seem a bit daunting at first, but with guidance, it can be very approachable! Learn the basics of making transitions using DJ equipment and how to build a playlist for your next party! Whether you want to perform at events or just mix for fun, this course is you gateway to the exciting world of DJ'ing. No experience or equipment necessary to attend.

Ryan Sligh started DJing in high school and has played for private events in VT, VA and ME, as well as at Flask Lounge in Portland. He plays various styles of dance music, hip-hop, and Top 40 music.

Did you know that the majority of crayons are derived from petroleum byproducts? Or that paint particles account for 58% of the microplastics found in the ocean? We know that selecting art products that are safe and environmentally-responsible can be difficult! Join us to discuss the various kinds of art supplies, safe ways to use up your current supply, and alternatives for future replacement. Though our main focus will be lecture and discussion, we will also experiment with some of the more eco-friendly materials currently available. All materials provided.

Sara Ottomano has more than 10 years of experience teaching art classes. She enjoys encouraging others to play with materials, explore sustainable artmaking practices, and create stories together.

Mill Girls of the Pepperell Section 1

Join us for an introduction to the Mill Girls and the part they played in building Biddeford/Saco's textile industry's prosperity. What conditions existed for those who worked there in the 1840s? Discover how the use of female labor came about, what their daily lives were like, how the girls and the community as a whole were changed, and when and why the practice came to an end. Leave with a new appreciation of this unique part of history that happened right here in our own community.

Liz Mansfield and her family have lived in Biddeford/Saco since 1983. Childhood summers spent in her great-great-grandparent's house, still full of their possessions, led to a lifelong interest in local history. She taught elementary school for a time and then taught adults for nearly 20 years as a Customer Service Trainer at L. L. Bean. Now retired, Liz volunteers for the Biddeford Mills Museum.

Intermediate & Beyond Crochet

If you already understand the basics of crochet, but want to take your skills to the next level, or just never knew how to decipher a pattern independently, then this is the course for you! Learn to read more complex patterns, get tips and tricks to work smarter not harder, and finish your projects with support every step of the way! Taught with both instruction and working time, students will have the opportunity to fine-tune their skills and build a friendship afghan using more advanced patterns and stitches. Choose a pattern, or provide your own, and Myriah will offer support in reading crochet shorthand and notes, choosing materials, making substitutions, and finishing projects with edging and borders.

Required: Bring a size H (5mm) crochet hook and sharp scissors to the first class. Other materials will be determined after choosing a pattern. No class 11/28.

Myriah Davis, owner & operator of Davis Arts, a pop-culture-based art business, has more than 20 years of crochet experience. Her goal is to share her enthusiasm for all things yarn, but especially crochet, with everyone she meets.

Moira Rascati, a graduate of Culinary Institute of America in NY, has been a professional chef for 40+ years and at Joseph's by the Sea in Old Orchard Beach for more than 30. She is currently an instructor at SMCC in their culinary arts and nutrition programs.

The entire process of purchasing a home is covered in this online ME hoMEworks course, including making the decision, setting a budget for homeownership, improving credit, getting a mortgage approval, working with a realtor, inspections, insurance, the closing process, energy efficiency and avoiding predatory lenders. Learn about closing cost and down payment assistance programs available for first-time homebuyers, veterans, and others. Attendees will earn a Certificate of Completion required by USDA, ME State Housing Authority, and other mortgage lenders. Free individualized counseling is offered after the class. Please have pen and paper available. Registration closes at noon on 10/30. Register the person you are buying your house with at the same time you do and receive a $10 refund.

Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People - Live Online

The course includes an online book, online follow-up video lessons, optional periodic online Q&A sessions and a recording of the class - enough materials to continue your practice and study on your own! Learn to form the three basic types of chords, handle a variety of keys and time signatures, avoid counting and simplify more than 12,000 complex chords. The course is part lecture/demonstration and part hands-on instruction.

Please have access to a computer, tablet, or phone, a piano or keyboard and a steady internet connection during class. Registration closes at noon on 10/25. Zoom link provided by instructor.

Seasonal Wellness with Chinese Medicine: Fall

The fifth and final session in a yearlong series offering an introduction to Chinese medicine's cycle of the Five Elements and Seasons. Stay tuned for additional classes in 2025 as Meret will be covering all of the seasons! Take one or all!

Explore tools for wellness, including self-acupressure, Qigong & movement, guided meditation, diet and lifestyle guidelines. Fall is the season of the metal element, which also includes mineral, and is associated with the lungs and large intestines, the organs of elimination. We'll explore breathing, cleansing, letting go, and preparing ourselves for winter. Each session will end with a circle of feedback and closing. Dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat or blanket. Registration closes at noon on 11/1.
