The Art of Shibori Dyeing
with Kristen Bartlett
Japanese resistance-dyeing dates back to the 8th century. Bind, fold and twist your cloth to create a beautifully-dyed patterns. Explore techniques with a selection of objects for manipulating the fabric. We will be using a natural dye extracted from the indigo plant. Leave with three dyed items! Tuition includes two flour sack towels and dyeing materials.
Required: one non-bulky fabric item, no larger than 4 x 4 feet, made of 100% natural fiber: cotton, cashmere, silk or hemp. You will be dyeing and going outside so please dress appropriately; bring a snack/lunch.
Kristen Bartlett was exposed to art at a very early age, inspiring her lifelong creative path. With schooling in drawing, oil painting, graphic design and photography, Kristen practices many forms of art. Her current loves are in mixed media collage and Japanese shibori dyeing.
