The Art of Printmaking
with Jennifer jackson
Block printing is a popular technique originating in China more than a thousand years ago. Traditionally, the artist carved an image in relief onto a block of wood, producing a stamp that could be painted with ink and pressed onto silk to produce a print. Learn the ancient technique of block-printing: design, carving your stamp, inking and printing. Leave with an understanding of composition, line, and how to create a printed image. Class size is limited so register early! Wear appropriate clothing or bring a smock. Tuition includes materials.
Required: 8x10 inch Strathmore printmaking paper pad, or Canson printmaking paper, Speedball linoleum carving tool, MOO Carve Carving Blocks or Staedtler Mastercarve 4x6 inch or smaller, as well as inspiration images (approx. $20-$30).
Optional: Speedball water-soluble block printing ink in a color of your choosing- black will be provided.
