Low-tech, simple and lots of fun!

Easily incorporate rovings, hand-spun and commercial yarns, felting techniques and embellishments after mastering the basics. Learn the sequence and procedure of rug hooking from start to finish with every step demonstrated. Discuss the history and tradition of primitive rug hooking, learn about finding and preparing materials, and research sources for design inspiration. Choose a small mat or chair pad from a variety of simple rug-hooking kits. Your kit includes everything needed: hook, instructions, design suggestions, binding, burlap, hoop and a selection of one-of- a-kind heirloom and hand-dyed wools ($41-$60, payable to instructor in class). To reserve your design, please look at the kits at, and email the instructor specifying your favorite. Please bring a bag lunch and sharp fabric scissors, if you have some.

Janet Conner holds a BS in art education from Moore College of Art & Design in PA, and is a member of the Saco Valley Fiber Artists. She exhibits regionally and at Maine Fiber Arts Center.
