Low-tech, simple and lots of fun! Learn rug hooking from start to finish with every step demonstrated. Easily incorporate rovings, hand-spun and commercial yarns, felting techniques and embellishments after mastering the basics. Discuss the history and tradition of primitive rug hooking, learn about finding and preparing materials and research sources for design inspiration. Choose a small mat or chair pad from a variety of simple kits which include everything: hook, instructions, binding, burlap, hoop and a selection of one-of- a-kind heirloom and hand-dyed wools ($41-$60, payable to instructor in class).

Janet Conner, BS in Art Education from Moore College of Art & Design in PA, is a member of the Saco Valley Fiber Artists, Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild & the national Association of Rug Hooking Artists. Her rugs have been exhibited regionally and at ME Fiber Arts Center. She and her students' rugs have been featured in Rug Hooking Magazine. Janet has contributed the magazine and also contributed to the book Finishing Hooked Rugs 2014, co-authored the book Rug Hooking Traditions with James and Mercedes Hutchinson, 2016. In 2020, Janet’s Magnificent Hooked Rugs: Designs Inspired by Western Art History was released by Anthem Publishing. After a 30 year career teaching elementary art in public school, Janet continues to find her greatest joy in teaching, especially beginners!
