Figure Studies in Charcoal

A basic understanding of anatomy can help the artist proportionately render the human figure. Learn about the skeletal system, musculature, and how to use light and shadow to create form. Explore heads, faces, hands, feet and the torso, putting it all together and into motion.
Required: two 18 x 24 in. newsprint pads (100 sheets), hard & soft charcoal, paper blending stumps, kneaded & white erasers, shammy, and a 18 x 24 in. heavy Bristol Pad for finished pieces (approx. $40-$50).
Jennifer Martel works primarily in oils, but uses media from charcoal to gold leaf. She is excited to help you save valuable time consumed in trial and error by sharing tips and insights gained over 20 years of experience.
