Learn the basics of how to use DJ equipment and the fundamental techniques of beat matching, mixing in key and track selection. Learn to analyze song structure in order to make better transitions, including mashups, drop switches, fade-outs and word play. Upon course completion, you will be able to smoothly make transitions and have an understanding of how to read a crowd. 

Required: Please bring any DJ equipment you currently own, such as DJ controllers, as well as a power strip and extension cord. If you do not own any equipment, bring a personal laptop with internet access. No vinyl. Students are encouraged to bring their own music downloaded to their device (i.e., not on a streaming service).

Ryan Sligh started DJing in high school and has played for private events in VT, VA and ME, as well as at Flask Lounge in Portland. He plays various styles of dance music, hip-hop and Top 40 music.
