Conquer Your Mac Photos App: Edit Your Images - Online

Overexposed image? No problem–adjust the exposure in editing mode. Wish your photo could be black and white instead of color? Choose a filter and change the ambiance of your image. Does the main object of your picture seem lost among extraneous details? Use the cropping feature to focus the viewer’s eye on the most important part of the image. These examples are just a few of the many ways you can turn an average image into something special. Have fun editing your pictures with the many options in your Mac’s Photos app.

Please have a strong internet connection and a Mac computer, iPad, or iPhone to access videos and articles (as courses are Mac-based).

Many Mac/Apple users have 1000 or more images stored in their Mac desktop/laptop Photos app. Frustration can arise when you try to find a picture or video among the multitude of saved images. Understanding the built-in organization of the Mac Photos app is the first thing you will learn. Next comes organizing your images and videos into albums and folders to develop your own management system. Plus, discover how to tag people in photos and create shared albums that you can invite friends and family to view!

Bring your questions and examples of any questionable recyclable items. Preregistration required, with registration closing at noon on 4/10.

Kitchen Gardens for New Gardeners: An Ecological Approach

A kitchen garden should be convenient, inviting, nurturing–offering relaxation as well as food! Explore plants and designs to fulfill your household needs, including fruits, vegetables, perennial edibles, and pollinator plants. Discuss ideas for location, garden size (containers or large beds), beneficial plant communities, and develop a timeline of implementation. No class 4/23.

Bring a 1-inch binder (or folder) for handouts, a notebook, pen, and your iPad/tablet, phone, or laptop (for researching plants).

Ann Murray, lifelong gardener and UMaine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener, learned landscaping and nursery work in RI and the Pacific Northwest before returning to Maine, where she enjoys finding cold-hardy perennial plant species among other plants that both feed her and serve her yard's ecosystem.

Death with Dignity Section 1 - Live Online

Maine's compassionate end-of-life care option is the subject of a great deal of confusion and false information. Although Maine's Death with Dignity Act has been in place since September 2019, most patients and medical personnel are still unaware of it. Learn how to talk about it with your doctor, how to comply with the law, or how to help a family member who might qualify.

Preregistration required, with registration closing at noon on 4/16.

Val Lovelace founded the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization Maine Death with Dignity and also serves as its executive director. She spearheaded a grassroots campaign from 2014 to 2019 to pass Maine's aid-in-dying statute, the Maine Death with Dignity Act. She is committed to providing factual information regarding medical aid in dying in the United States to politicians, healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.

Bring a pen/notepad, wear a lower neckline and come with no makeup.

Candace Sanborn, personal stylist and owner of Radiant Image in Auburn, teaches women how to look and feel good about their appearance by dressing for their coloring, body type, and face shape. She provides personalized color palettes and clothing portfolios to make shopping easier and more focused, which saves money and results in more outfits with fewer pieces because clothes mix and match!
