Accuplacer Math

This math course is self paced and individualized depending on the results of Unit Pre-tests – You only work on the skills you haven’t mastered yet!

It starts with basic arithmetic and progresses through geometry and algebra skills.

Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 1-3 PM, January 4th through April 12th. No class January 16th or February 20th & 22nd.

Raising two children and having degrees in Industrial Arts & Math Education led her to a rewarding career of volunteering and teaching grades Pre-K through High School for over 20 years. Prior to her career in education, Melissa traveled and worked in a variety of jobs outside of education as well. She is passionate about her family, her students, her dogs, nature, desserts and having a positive outlook on life!

Citizenship Class

Are you thinking of becoming a citizen of the United States? We can help you prepare! You will learn what to do to become a citizen, study history and government, discuss rights and responsibilities, and prepare for the exam. Free classes are available.

Class meets Wednesdays, 5:30-7 PM, March 1st through May 24th. No class: April 19th.

Come to this FREE Info session and bring all your questions about our no cost college certificate program. See what options are there to support your transition into college.

This session meets on Tuesday, September 5th, 10 AM-12 PM.Register online or call 207-282-3846 or 207-934-7922.

Registration required as space is limited.

Our no cost College Readiness Certificate program is intended to prepare students with the skills to help them succeed in college. Special attention will be paid to the application process and financial aid, as well as fundamentals such as note-taking and study skills. Guest speakers from various local organizations and two college visits will also be included in the schedule.

Students are required to be enrolled in the full College Readiness Certificate Program unless given special permission by the Program Director. At the conclusion of the program students who wish to keep their books may purchase them at the Learning Center.

Criminal Case Studies

Crime does not discriminate between age, race, social status, or geographical location. It can occur anywhere. This course will examine both high profile cases, as well as non-high profile cases. Students will be expected to look at how evidence was found, witness encounters, as well as the court proceedings. They will participate in discussions about the case studies, as well as analyze the findings and verdicts. Who did it, and did they get the appropriate sentence?

Class meets Tuesdays, 1-3 PM, April 25th through June 20th.

Critical Reading in Content Areas

We will read numerous articles from a variety of content areas to help students see how to adapt reading strategies to the special demands of different subject matter. We will work on skills that help students understand what a writer is saying and help them judge the worth and believability of what is written.

Critical Thinking & Writing

We will begin by exploring what Critical Thinking is, then examine our own values and attitudes. We will also spend time Recognizing Errors in Thinking and Evaluating Ideas. This course will require a writing journal and many writing assignments. Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 1-3 PM, April 24th through June 19th. No class May 29th.

Digital Literacy

This course is designed to give a basic overview of desktop publishing applications such as Open Office. Get a basic overview of word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation applications while developing a familiarity with desktop operating systems. A basic understanding of computers and access to a computer outside of class is strongly recommended. Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 1-3 PM, April 24th through June 19th. No class May 29th.
